Reiver Hospitality - press release (21.08.07)
The consultancy office of "International Hospitality Solutions" has now been established near Langholm, Dumfriesshire, to service Hotels, Pubs and Restaurants with business support throughout the UK and worldwide. This is a new business venture by experienced hotelier, Rebecca Chandler and Raymond Chandler, who previously worked for an hotel company controlling operations and developments at 18 Country House Hotels from Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands. Raymond said "Although IHS is initially developing its business in Scotland and Cumbria, it offers its consultancy services throughout the UK. The demand and necessity for www - information highway presence, is as great as ever and this is one area that is developing well, under the specific control of Rebecca. At present, Raymond spends most of the working day as Tourism Industry Liaison for Cumbria Tourism."
The Borders has superb countryside and is a great place to live and be able to offer service to the Hospitality Industry. We are happy to continue the 16th century Border Reiver traditions and raid South of the Border for business, although it is appreciated that the concept of reiving and hospitality could be seen as somewhat of a contradiction." The border reivers? - The origins of this name lies in the past as various families or clans argued over their rights to a stark stretch of land between the borders of Scotland and England. In the 16th century, this wild borderland was a place of notorious danger. Centuries of warfare between the two countries had created the border reivers. Riders, raiders, guerilla soldiers, gangsters - men who gave us the word blackmail. The moorlands and valleys between Langholm, Newcastleton and Hawick form a unique landscape, the living legacy of a turbulent past. Today, peaceful, 500 years ago, they echoed to the sound of steel, as men known as reivers came riding through the night.
There is much hidden beauty and a rich and varied past in this area, its almost a shame to let the cat out of the bag. Langholm and the countryside around it must be one of Scotland's best kept secrets." Langholm, came in to being in 1621 when the lands of Langholm were conferred on Lord Robert Maxwell by King James VI. Although originally a market town in the eighteenth century, Langholm became a centre of the textile trade, however, in recent years the textile business has shrunk considerably. Today, Langholm may be better known better for its links with Thomas Telford who was employed by a local builder when the Langholm Bridge was built over the river Esk in 1778. Telford was born just 5 miles away near Bentpath. At one time, Langholm would have been the largest town in Southern Scotland. Today it is quite simply a beautiful jewel in the splendid crown of the Scottish Borders. The fantastic views of Cumbria and its mountains as well as the North Pennines keep us drawn to the English Border.
Raymond & Rebecca relish the prospect of supporting the local economies and have over 45 years of hospitality experience between them. The team welcome new business enquiries.
